football.

Jaguars acquire Charlton in trade with Seattle
The Seahawks traded CB Ike Charlton to Jacksonville on Thursday for a seventh-round
draft choice in the 2003 NFL draft. Charlton was Seattles second-round choice in the
2000 draft. The 5-11, 205-pounder was being groomed as a starting cornerback but was
beaten out by rookie Ken Lucas last season.
Buchsbaum: Charlton was a second-round pick who never panned out in Seattle. The
coaches never liked his attitude. They also didnt like his play. In Jacksonville, he
goes to a team that has a lot of openings in the secondary, lost Aaron Beasley in free
agency, and needs a bigger player at the corner. The Jaguars also may use a little more
zone than Seattle used, which could help him.
If Charlton uses this as a wake-up call, he does have a chance to play for Jacksonville
and contribute. However, I doubt hell ever return the second-round value that the
Seahawks thought they were getting for him. On the other hand, hes worth a
seventh-round gamble for the Jaguars.

Eagles sign WR-RS Milons
The Eagles signed fifth-round draft pick Freddie Milons to a three-year, $1 million
deal Thursday. He will receive a signing bonus of $110,000. His salaries will be $225,000,
$300,000 and $375,000 for the three years of the contract. Milons, a 5-9, 190-pounder,
caught 36 passes for 626 yards and three touchdowns as a senior last year at Alabama. He
also returns kickoffs and punts, with two punt returns for touchdowns during his
collegiate career.
Buchsbaum: Milons basically gives the Eagles depth in two areas at wide receiver
and kick returner. He also can line up in the backfield and play option quarterback for
certain Kordell Stewart type of plays. Thats another thing a creative offensive
coach like Andy Reid might use him for. However, Milons will have a hard time making the
Eagles roster because they have a lot of promising, young receivers and he does not
have outstanding speed. He does have quickness, however. |
