Saints sign ex-Raiders DT Grady Jackson
Grady Jackson, who led the Oakland Raiders in sacks two years ago, signed a two-year
contract with New Orleans on Thursday. Jackson, who will be entering his sixth season,
played for the Raiders since he was selected in the sixth round in 1997. He started 32 of
67 games, posting 216 tackles, 19 sacks and four forced fumbles. He will take the place of
La'Roi Glover, who signed with Dallas. Jackson, a 6-foot-2, 330-pounder, emerged as a
starter for the Raiders over the last two years. In 2000, he led Oakland with eight sacks
and had 68 tackles and started 15 games. He started all 16 games last season, finishing
with a career-best 69 tackles and four sacks.
Buchsbaum: Grady Jackson and Norman Hand are two of the most dominant players in the
league when both have their weights under control. Last year, both were fat and out of
shape and didnt play nearly up to expectations. Jackson also had a number of
shoulder problems. If Jackson and Hand get their weight down and are injury-free, they can
be as dominating versus the run as any set of tackles in football and can do for the
Saints what DTs Tony Siragusa and Sam Adams did for Baltimore two years ago. |
