Super Bowl XXXVI

Q & A with Patriots CB Ty Law

Jan. 30, 2002

New England CB Ty Law spoke with the media upon his arrival in New Orleans at the Patriots’ press conference. Here’s a look at his responses:

Q: Does it make a difference that you have played the Rams already this season?

A: I wouldn’t say it is an advantage, but these are the type of guys that stick to what they do. No one has been able to stop it yet, so why change? If you watch enough film on them and prepare, you just have to go out there and win some of those one-on-one matchups.

Q: Is the Rams’ WR corps as good as any you’ve ever defended?

A: They are definitely the best group of receivers I have ever had to defend. Their first four guys could start on any team. To be able to keep a group of guys on one team that long is saying something about their organization, because a lot of teams would not be able to keep that much talent on one side of the ball.

Q: What did you take away from the earlier meeting with the Rams?

A: I definitely felt that we should have played better. I felt we had some opportunities that we let slip away. When you have opportunities, you cannot afford to let them slip away. We let it slip away, especially going into the half. When you have opportunities against these guys, you have to take advantage of them because it might not come around again.

Q: Are the Rams the best team you have seen this year?

A: Yes, this is the best team we’ve seen this year. They have proven it week in and week out. They have the offense and the defense. They do it all. Mike Martz is a great coach, and he has prepared them well. They don’t make very many mental errors. They are a great football club.

Q: What are the keys to beating St. Louis?

A: We don’t want to get into a foot race with these guys, because they have a lot of team speed. We have to play together as a team. No individual or team should try to take it on his shoulders to try to outdo all those guys. We have to win the individual matchups in a team concept.
