Collins tops list of most disappointing quarterbacks

We asked our panel of NFL insiders to name the quarterbacks who have been the most disappointing this season. All comments were made anonymously.

1. Kerry Collins / Giants — "Looks clumsier and is not moving as well. Making way too many turnovers and looks hopeless outside the pocket. Not as bad as some say, but not as good as last year. Has shown signs of last year’s form the past two weeks, but up until that point, was killing the Giants."

2. Elvis Grbac / Ravens — "His turnovers are killing them. Throws a beautiful ball but makes way too many mistakes when he can’t do things by the numbers. Really came up short in what was pretty much a must-win game for the Ravens against the Steelers in Week 14."

3. Trent Green / Chiefs — "Loss of accuracy is a huge mystery. Tended to hold on to the ball too long but always was very accurate when he could step and throw, until this year. However, he did play the best game he’s played this year (in Week 14) against the Broncos and finally looked like the quarterback the Chiefs felt they were dealing for."

4. Akili Smith / Bengals — "Much more talented than (Jon) Kitna, but work ethic and lack of maturity are killing him. Thinks he is working hard when he is not. However, he did show flashes of ability against the Jets in his first start (in Week 14) before going out with a hamstring injury early in the game."

5. Peyton Manning / Colts — "With many things going wrong around him, he has tried to do too much himself. As a result, he has thrown an alarming number of interceptions and has not been as fundamentally sound as he had been in his career up until this point."

6. Matt Hasselbeck / Seahawks — "He has yet to do enough to convince the Seahawks that he is the quarterback they can build their offense around."

7. Brian Griese / Broncos — "When things started breaking down around him, he looked like the quarterback who people said was going to be no more than a good backup instead of the Pro Bowl quarterback he was last year."

Busts who have been total nonfactors this year:

1. Cade McNown / Dolphins — "The Bears gave up on him already."

2. Jeff Lewis / ex-Panthers — "The Panthers planned for him to be their quarterback of the future, and now he may not have a future. Got plenty of chances but failed each time."

3. Jeff George / ex-Redskins — "Will he ever learn to use his great ability before he runs out of chances?"
