Manning the insiders' choice for QB this year

The question we posed to NFL insiders was which quarterback they would choose if they had to have one this season.

1. Peyton Manning / Colts — "Great player and leader with tremendous intangibles and an upside."

"I would go with Manning, but he still has not really stepped up big in the playoffs."

2. Brett Favre / Packers — "Arm has lost some zip, and he no longer can run and improvise like he could, but he still throws very well and is the best leader and the toughest SOB in the game."

3. Daunte Culpepper / Vikings — "He could be the NFL’s answer to Shaq when he gets some experience, but he still needs the experience. He is as big as some linemen, as fast as the running backs and is a great passer. However, there still is a learning curve involved."

"He is a monster with the athleticism of a much smaller man. A freak of nature."

4. Kurt Warner / Rams — "I still really worry about the concussions."

"Best pure passer in the game. My choice as long as he stays healthy. Has the ring."

5. Donovan McNabb / Eagles — "He is a winner and a warrior. A lot like Favre in terms of toughness and leadership. A top runner and an improving passer."

6. Brian Griese / Broncos — "Last year he had a 19-4 TD-interception ratio and completed about two-thirds of his passes. He will not stand out physically, but he is so smart and accurate that you can’t beat him. He is a slightly less athletic Joe Montana. He will not carry a team, but give him good people around him and a solid system, and he will be as productive as anyone and a perfect fit."
