Matchups to exploit or avoid

Teams on bye: Cincinnati, Minnesota, St. Louis

Matchups to exploit

In two games against the Broncos last season, Raiders WR Tim Brown had three TD catches and yardage outputs of 92 and 122.

San Francisco RBs Garrison Hearst and Kevan Barlow have a great matchup against a Lions defense that has allowed at least 139 rushing yards in four of six games.

Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander could recapture his big-game form against the Redskins, who held an opponent below 124 rushing yards last week for the first time this season. The Giants gained only 42 yards on the ground.

If Cowboys RB Emmitt Smith (knee) can go this week, history is on his side. In his last five meetings against the Giants, he has either scored a touchdown or rushed for 100 yards.

Matchups to avoid

Cardinals RBs Michael Pittman and Thomas Jones figure to have a hard time scoring against the Eagles, who allowed just one rushing touchdown before surrendering two to Oakland last week.

Titans QB Steve McNair could have problems against a Jaguars defense that has allowed only three passing touchdowns in six games.

Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad’s struggles could continue against the Dolphins, who rank fifth in the league in passing yards allowed.

Buccaneers QB Brad Johnson didn’t throw for a TD pass in his first meeting with the Packers, and he’ll be hard-pressed to do so this time. Green Bay ranks third in the league in pass defense and has allowed only three TD passes in six games.
