Matchups to exploit or avoid

By Jeff Agrest, Senior editor

Teams on bye: Atlanta, Cleveland, Green Bay.

Matchups to exploit

Chiefs WR Derrick Alexander could stay hot against a Colts defense that has been victimized badly of late. Indianapolis ranks 25th in the league in yards allowed per game and 27th in average yards allowed per defensive play. Alexander caught four passes for 99 yards and TD last week.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to start either of Dallas’ starting wideouts, Joey Galloway or Raghib Ismail, against the Cardinals. Arizona has given up some big pass plays — the team ranks last in the league in average gain allowed per pass play — and the Cowboys are willing to look long.

If you’re in dire need of a running back, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to give Panthers RB Richard Huntley a try. The Jets have been torched on the ground this season, allowing 167.5 rushing yards per game, worst in the league.

Ravens WR Travis Taylor’s first two professional touchdowns came against the Jaguars last season in Week Two. In that game, he caught four passes for 80 yards.

Matchups to avoid

Bills RB Travis Henry’s hot-and-cold season could turn cold this week against the Chargers, who have held four of their six opponents to few than 100 yards rushing.

Keep Seahawks WR Darrell Jackson on the bench this week against the Dolphins, who have held four of their five opponents to 210 passing yards or fewer. The one opponent to break the mark was St. Louis.

Continue to bench all Titans — save PK Joe Nedney, especially this week against the Steelers, who rank second in the league in defense. RB Eddie George has gone five straight games without a 100-yard game.

Eagles RBs Correll Buckhalter and Duce Staley don’t figure to have a good matchup against a well-rested Raiders defense that ranks tied for sixth in the league against the run.
