Week Five fantasy football

Matchups to exploit or avoid

By Jeff Agrest, Senior editor
Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001

This week’s bye team: Buffalo, Jacksonville and Philadelphia

Matchups to exploit

Bears WRs Marcus Robinson and Marty Booker should continue their hot streak this week vs. the Cardinals, who have surrendered more than 300 yards in each of their three games.

Cowboys RB Emmitt Smith should have a breakout game vs. a Redskins defense that has allowed an average of 158.8 rushing yards in four games.

Dolphins RB Lamar Smith should continue his rampage this week vs. the Jets, who have allowed an average of 164.0 rushing yards in four games.

Saints WR Joe Horn caught two TD passes in two games vs. Carolina last season.

Matchups to avoid

Patriots RB Antowain Smith’s scoring run (three TDs in last two games) could come to an end vs. a Chargers defense that surrendered its first rushing touchdown of the season last week.

Chiefs RB Priest Holmes doesn’t have a favorable matchup against the Steelers, who have held their three opponents to an average of 72.7 rushing yards per game.

Michael Pittman has been the lead runner for the Cardinals, but he might find little room to run against a Bears defense that has allowed an average of 88.7 rushing yards and just one rushing touchdown in three games.

Packers RB Ahman Green will face his stiffest test yet against the Ravens, who have held each of their four opponents below 70 yards rushing. They’ve even held their foes under 200 yards receiving.
