Week Three fantasy football

Matchups to exploit or avoid

By Jeff Agrest, Senior editor

This week’s bye teams: Chicago, Detroit and Tennessee

Matchups to exploit

In his last four meetings with the Seahawks, Raiders RB Tyrone Wheatley has rushed for at least 100 yards three times and scored two touchdowns. Included are performances of 156 and 146 yards.

Could this be the week a Chiefs running back finally breaks through? This week’s opponent, the Redskins, have allowed a 100-yard rushing in each of their first two games (LaDainian Tomlinson and Ahman Green).

Steelers RB Jerome Bettis is a good play this week against a Bills defense that will be without Pro Bowl MLB Sam Cowart. Since Cowart left Buffalo’s Week One loss to New Orleans in the first quarter, the Bills have allowed Ricky Williams and Edgerrin James to combine for 201 rushing yards.

Last year against the Packers, Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad caught 11 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns.

Matchups to avoid

Considering Vikings RB Michael Bennett didn’t gain much against the Panthers and Bears, it’s unlikely he’ll light it up against the Buccaneers.

Browns QB Tim Couch may have lit up the Lions, but he probably won’t have similar success against a Jaguars defense that has yet to allow a touchdown, yielding only three field goals in two games.

Given what we’ve seen of Bills QB Rob Johnson so far, don’t expect much from WR Eric Moulds this week against a Steelers defense that is sure to give Johnson problems.

Remain clear of Seahawks receivers, who have a tough assignment this week against Raiders CBs Charles Woodson and Eric Allen.
