Matchups to exploit or avoid

By Jeff Agrest, Senior editor

Teams on bye: Denver Broncos

Matchups to exploit

Cardinals WR David Boston has a promising outlook against a young and suspect group of Cowboys receivers. In the teams’ Week Seven meeting, Boston caught nine passes for 108 yards.

Stick with WR Jerry Rice against an injury-plagued and suspect Titans secondary. Rice has a TD catch in each of his last three games and six in his last five games.

In his Week Eight meeting with the Chargers, Chiefs FB Tony Richardson rushed for two touchdowns. Richardson has five touchdowns for the season.

Dolphins RB Lamar Smith’s season-best performance came vs. the Patriots in Week Four, when he rushed 29 times for 144 yards and a touchdown.

Matchups to avoid

Redskins RB Stephen Davis has a difficult matchup against the Bears and their stout run defense. Chicago has allowed just one 100-yard rusher all season (Packers RB Ahman Green).

Lions RB James Stewart has a tough matchup against the Steelers’ top-ranked run defense. Pittsburgh has allowed only 70.2 rushing yards per game.

Patriots QB Tom Brady scoring problems could continue against the Dolphins, who boast the league’s top-ranked pass defense. Brady has gone three games without a TD pass.

In seven career starts vs. the Ravens, Bengals RB Corey Dillon has no touchdowns and one 100-yard rushing game (1998 at Baltimore; 25 carries, 116 yards).
