Matchups to exploit or avoid

Teams on bye: New York Giants

Matchups to exploit

In his last three meetings with the Panthers, Saints RB Ricky Williams has scored three touchdowns and broken 100 yards rushing twice (147 and 144). Carolina ranks last in the league in rushing yards allowed per game.

In two games against the Falcons last season, Rams QB Kurt Warner had a TD-interception ratio of 7-2 with two 300-yard passing games. Atlanta ranks 28th in the league in passing yards allowed per game.

Browns QB Tim Couch should be able to make some plays against a susceptible Titans pass defense that was abused by the Steelers last week. Tennessee ranks 30th in the league in passing yards allowed per game.

Ravens WR Qadry Ismail should find the endzone against a Colts defense that was badly victimized last week by the 49ers. Indianapolis, which has allowed more than 300 yards in all but one game this season, surrendered 491 to the Niners.

Matchups to avoid

Lions RB James Stewart, who returned to action last week with a 100-yard outing, should find little room to run against the Bears’ run defense, which ranks third in the league.

Patriots WR Troy Brown is having a fine season, but he could hit the skids against the Jets, who boast a tough, playmaking secondary. New York ranks third in the league in passing yards allowed per game.

Given the Vikings’ struggles on the road, don’t expect a big game from QB Daunte Culpepper, especially going against the Steelers’ attacking defense. Pittsburgh has allowed the fewest points in the league.

Cardinals WR David Boston is red-hot, but he could go ice-cold against Charles Woodson and the Raiders’ defense. The Raiders have allowed only 10 TD passes this season, tied for the fourth-fewest in the league.
