| Another week is in the fantasy football books,
and another week of strange occurrences around the league went right along with it. Randy
Moss still does not have a touchdown, making all those out there who spent first-round
picks on him quite nervous.
But then again Moss and the other strange oddities gave way to the things you can count
on:
The triple threat in Indianapolis looked like itself. Peyton Manning, Edgerrin
James and Marvin Harrison were at the top of their games and carried most
fantasy football teams to wins in this relatively low-scoring weekend.
And of course, Fred Taylor got hurt.
Lets take a look at some of the other pressing fantasy football questions that
developed out of the Week Two games:
Whats up
with the Vikings offense?
Once a relative gold mine for fantasy football players, the Vikings offense is
verging on ho-hum. Missing Robert Smith more than they likely expected, second-year
QB Daunte Culpepper seems to be easing up the downfield heat and settling for
numerous underneath routes. Byron Chamberlain has already been more productive in
this Minnesota offense than hed ever been, but Moss isnt being given many
deep-field looks and Cris Carter almost seems like an afterthought.
Whats
the Taylor situation?
All reports indicated that Taylor suffered a strained groin in Sundays game with
the Titans. This may or may not be serious, but if Taylors injury track record means
anything, it will probably take him longer to get back than most.
A bright spot for the Jaguars on Sunday was Stacey Mack. He ran very, very
strong and with a confidence you wouldnt expect if you saw him last year. If
hes available in your league, go get him. He might not be worth anything now, but
odds are the brittle Taylor will go down again.
Who is the
man in the Rams WR corps?
I saw numerous publications looking to anoint Torry Holt as the new No. 1 in Kurt
Warners heart. But from all indications, Isaac Bruce is not quite ready
to relinquish the post. Warner specializes in spreading the football around, but in a
pinch it is clear whom he looks for first.
Whats
the plan for the Broncos backfield?
If you drafted Terrell Davis and didnt back him up with Mike Anderson,
you can begin crying right now. Anderson looked better than Davis before the injury that
will sideline him for six weeks, and odds are hell do nothing to change that opinion
while racking up some gaudy numbers during Davis absence. Davis might not have a
starting job when he returns, and even if he does, it might be to share carries with
Anderson.
Explain Jay
Fiedler?
He will never post gigantic yardage numbers, because he doesnt throw deep enough.
But what he will do is make enough plays to make you certainly consider making him a
playing option. These running touchdowns are an interesting addition from a fantasy
perspective, and it doesnt look as though they will be stopping any time soon.
Are there any
good pickups out there?
Philadelphia rookie RB Correll Buckhalter wouldnt be the worst idea in the
world, especially considering that Duce Staley went down again with an injury. If
you are hurting at wide receiver, Atlantas Tony Martin could be worth a
look-see, as many leagues forgot about the crafty veteran. If you are a risk taker,
Miamis Chris Chambers could be your guy. Chambers isnt there yet, but
it looks like only a matter of time before the speedy rookie is a regular contributor for
the Dolphins. |
