Senior Bowl 2002 — Game-day review

These players improved their stock with solid Senior Bowl performances

As published in print Jan. 28, 2002

Senior Bowl week proved to be a positive experience for every player, and certain players saw what it took to play in the NFL. There is no way to measure how valuable that is. What separates the Senior Bowl from other such contests is how concerned bowl officials are about players’ health. They will do everything possible to protect them. What follows is a look at some players who helped themselves in scouts’ eyes with a fine game-day showing.

WR Tim Carter / Auburn — Caught the ball better than first thought. Showed toughness and competitiveness.

CB Joseph Jefferson / Western Kentucky — He’s gotten better and better and has come a long way. It was obvious the Cardinals’ coaching staff worked with him on his technique.

OT Levi Jones / Arizona State — Showed he’s a big, athletic kid who can pass block against athletic players. Now appears to be the No. 3 offensive tackle available.

QB Josh McCown / Sam Houston State — Showed that he’s a big, mobile, athletic kid with a strong arm. Though he isn’t always technically sound, he’s accurate and has a lot of tools.

QB Patrick Ramsey / Tulane — Threw the ball extremely well. Outside of Fresno State QB David Carr, Ramsey was the best passer at the game. He had a natural, smooth delivery and was accurate.

QB-WR-PR Antwaan Randle El / Indiana — Very quick, elusive and versatile. Makes people miss and gets open underneath as a receiver. Could be a slash-type as a slot receiver and a punt returner.

CB Roosevelt Williams / Tuskegee — Is still raw and has a long way to go technique-wise. But his athletic ability was good, and he was faster than first thought.
