UCLA’s Foster striking the pose

Dantzler may move his best foot, arm forward

  1. DeShaun Foster, RB, UCLA — Back in the running, Foster scampered for a school-record 301 yards on 31 carries against unbeaten Washington Oct. 13. I’m not the only one thinking highly of Foster. Coach Bob Toledo is comparing his senior tailback to his former USC pupil Marcus Allen.
  2. Woodrow Dantzler, QB, Clemson — A better all-around player than Michael Vick because of his passing accuracy, Dantzler averages 103 yards rushing and 239 yards passing (68.9% completions) a game. His 517-yard performance — 333 pass, 184 rush — makes me think he’ll be holding the hardware by season’s end pending upcoming dates with Wake Forest, Florida State, Maryland and South Carolina.
  3. Eric Crouch, QB, Nebraska — The general of the unbeaten Cornhuskers ranks 13th in the nation with 684 rushing yards and has completed an efficient 61.1 percent of his 90 pass attempts with 17 total touchdowns (13 rushing). His performance against Oklahoma Oct. 27 will be the deciding factor in Crouch’s candidacy.
  4. Ken Dorsey, QB, Miami — Not flashy, but who can argue with the results? Dorsey is responsible for the offensive success of the No. 1 Hurricanes more than any other, though the pocket-style passer is protected by the premier offensive line in the nation. The junior QB has a passer rating of 165.8 with 11 touchdowns and 1,430 yards with a career TD-to-INT ratio of 37-8.
  5. Adrian Peterson, RB, Georgia Southern — We know he’s a Division I-AA product. We also know that in two games against I-A opposition — Georgia and Oregon State — Peterson has held his own; 156 yards vs. Georgia and 182 vs. Oregon. Until last week, when Appalachian State broke the streak, Peterson had rushed for 100 yards or more in 46 straight games, including the playoffs. Those kind of numbers translate in any language, on any level.

Honorable mention: David Carr, QB, Fresno State; Joey Harrington, QB, Oregon.
