Pro Football Weekly and Riddell present ...
2002 NFL draft

Q&A with Quentin Jammer

April 20, 2002

Q: What are your thoughts about playing in San Diego?

A: I'm really looking forward to playing with the Hitman, (Rodney) Harrison back there and Junior. It's going to be great.

Q: Was San Diego your first choice of where you wanted to play?

A:I really like Mr. Butler and Coach Schottenheimer.  It's a great place to be."

Q: How excited are you about playing in Qualcomm Stadium?

A: I love the field.  I had two of my best games out there.  I played against Reggie Williams and had a good game against him.  We played Oregon the year before and I had a good game against their receivers.  I am really excited about playing at the Chargers stadium.

Q: What do you think about being a possible starter?

A: That was the goal of mine. Hopefully, I can come in and make an immediate impact.   I want to come in and be a starter.

Q: What are your strengths?

A: I'm a very physical guy.  I'm a big guy.  I have good feet and good hips.   I like to hit people.  I'm a very physical cornerback.

Q: What are your thoughts on playing the one-on-one bump?

A: I love playing one-on-one bump. I like getting in the receiver's face.  I'm not sure I can intimidate some of those NFL receivers.  I'm a very physical guy and like to get up in the scrimmage line and use my hands.

Q: What did you think about possibly going to Detroit or Buffalo?

A: I thought I was going to end up in Detroit.  There were some mixed emotions there.  I would've liked to be there with my teammate Shawn Rogers.  Like I said before, San Diego was my first choice.  That's where I really, really wanted to be.

Q: How do you feel about playing for a team that's only one 6 games in the last two years?

A: That's why I hope to come in there and make an immediate impact on the team.  I like to come in and do what I do best and maybe we can get that ring. The ultimate ring.

Q: What is your major at Austin (University of Texas)?

A: I am going to change it to psychology — take me up to about 15 hours to graduate, but I am willing to take that risk because that’s something I wanted to do originally coming into school, so I am going to do it.

Q: Detroit indicated serious interest in you …

A: I really didn’t have much conversation with Detroit other than my workout. I hadn’t talked to them other than that, so I didn’t know what was going on.

Q: Talk about stepping in and having to an opportunity to play with those guys (in the Chargers’ secondary).

A: It’s going to be great. Really, (Rodney) Harrison is an aggressive, physical guy. He loves to hit people. I love to hit people. (Ryan) McNeil is a veteran. I hope I can learn from him. They are experienced guys, and I hope they will take me under their wing and show me around a little bit.

Q: Were there any players that you admired as you were growing up or modeled yourself after?

A: I didn’t model myself after anybody, but if there was a player I would have to say that … I guess you could say that I am similar to Sam Madison. I like the way he plays. He’s aggressive. He’s physical.
