No surprises here —
David Carr went No. 1 overall

Q: Everybody expected the Texans to pick you for weeks. Was it anticlimactic?

A: There were still some nerves. It’s not every day you walk up and get to be the first person chosen. It was special, and I am going to remember it for a long time.

Q: Do you wish you had the right to negotiate with all the NFL teams like any other college graduate would?

A: Not really. If the Texans had the 30th pick, I would have loved to have gone here. Ever since I found out they were going to have a team, this is the team I wanted to be a part of. A lot of people didn’t believe me back when I said that, but it’s something that I have worked hard for.

Q: How will the adjustment period be for you?

A: Haven’t been there yet, so I don’t know. It’s going to be something I am just going to have to feel out, just pick as many brains as I can, study as much film as I can and just go out there and do it.

Q: Did you get to know Joey Harrington through this process?

A: I think I met him two or three times. The thing about that is that I play for the Texans and he plays for the Lions, and now we’re going to be compared to Brett Favre and Peyton Manning and different guys like that. We are kind of in this thing together as a quarterback class, but we are competing against the best guys in the league now, so it’s going to be exciting. I wish him well.

Q: Where are you now in the learning process? Are you into the playbook, and when does it all start for you?

A: I wish I was. I am going to be able to grab some film of the Cleveland Browns when (Texans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer) was there and get to watch that a little bit and see. I got a good feel going out to practice the other day of what they want to get done and the style they run and what they want to get on the offensive side of the ball, so now I am going to watch some film and see even more when they get into game situations like third-and-short and second-and-long and different things. I am excited about getting in there and getting as much in as I can until they let me out on the field.
