Week 10 fantasy tips
By Andy Hanacek, Associate editor and XFL analyst
|
The XFL needs to stop changing rules in the
middle (and at the end) of the season. Take, for example, this week's rule change
involving extra points. Now, teams can opt for a two- or three-point conversion instead of
the standard one-point conversion. This is a good idea for the most part, except for the
fact that they're instituting it now. Why couldn't they just wait until next season? This
really hurts the little remaining credibility the league has with some of the media. Plus,
it makes the first part of the season look like a farce, because there were different
rules. Please, guys and gals, at this point, make changes for next season, not this
season. On to the fantasy tips:
- The biggest game of the week is being played between San Francisco and Los Angeles this
week, and it looks to be an offensive display of epic proportions. If you have any
offensive players on the Demons or Xtreme, I'd have to say start them. Also, if you've
been waiting to watch a good game, this one should be it.
- Orlando Rage QB Brian Kuklick has played well enough to keep the Rage offense in
rhythm in the absence of star QB Jeff Brohm. Kuklick could be just the kick your
fantasy team needs in this final week, against an Enforcers defense that has played
phenomenal football lately but still hasn't earned my respect as a great pass-defending
defense.
- Chicago Enforcers RB John Avery & Co. will be playing for all the marbles
this week. If they lose and New York/New Jersey wins, the Enforcers are out of the
playoffs. Look for Avery to play possessed football. Remember, he had a field day against
the Rage way back in Week One. Orlando couldn't stop him then, and I don't think it has
improved enough that it can stop him now.
- Just because the Memphis Maniax and Las Vegas Outlaws aren't playing for anything but
the game-winning bonus doesn't mean they won't play hard. You'll see the starters on the
field, I'm sure, because these teams don't have a lot of backups across the board. Also,
that bonus creates a fire in the belly of the players. So look for players such as Jim
Druckenmiller, Rod Smart and Kelvin Kinney to play hard and not
disappoint their fantasy owners (not that they're thinking about that).
- If you haven't signed any of the Enforcers' wide receivers, you should have awhile ago. Luke
Leverson and Aaron Bailey are the top two targets for QB Kevin McDougal,
and McDougal has been very much on target to those guys. Sign them, especially if your
league counts yardage.
