The Bills’ RB situation

Profootballweekly.com: How do you see the Bills’ RB situation standing now with the release of Antowain Smith?

Buchsbaum: The Bills’ biggest problem in this area is that they have a lot of what scouts call 1-B backs, meaning they’re better than most backups but not really good enough to be the answer as the starter. That’s why the Bills signed Larry Centers and drafted Travis Henry in the second round. Centers is one of the better pass-catching fullbacks in the history of the NFL and should fit nicely into the team’s West Coast offense. Henry is a power runner with great determination and balance who is about as hard to knock off his feet as a Coke machine and is as tough as they come. He has tremendous balance, a low center of gravity, nice vision and was the toughest back in the draft. However, he is not a really nifty or fast runner. Shawn Bryson has exceptional straight-line speed and very good hands, but he’s not a natural running back or much of a blocker. As a rookie, Sammy Morris looked good both running and catching and has really nice hands, but then he got hurt and seemed to hit the wall. He has a long history of missed time in college.

Sam Rogers signs with Chargers

Profootballweekly.com: How does the signing of Sam Rogers from Buffalo impact the Chargers’ LB corps?

Buchsbaum: Gerald Dixon, the third starter last year, will be replaced by Rogers on the strong side. Rogers is a very solid and steady player. Rookies Carlos Polk and Zeke Moreno will get every chance to start in the middle as well. Both are known as top competitors and real tough guys.
