contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum for his thoughts on some of the latest NFL free-agent
signings. 
Buchsbaum comments on recent free-agent signings
PFW: Packers re-sign Bernardo Harris
Buchsbaum: He had his best year. He’s a respectable linebacker. I didn’t
think he’d be good enough last year, until he played better.
PFW: Bengals sign Richie Cunningham
Buchsbaum: Journeyman kicker with average leg strength. It’s just that their young
kicker, Neil Rackers, was so bad that they had to get some competition in there for him.
PFW: Dolphins add WR James McKnight
Buchsbaum: It gives them a down-the-field, big-play threat. The question is can he put
strong years back-to-back. He never has in the past.
PFW: Carolina signs OG Kevin Donnalley
Buchsbaum: He fits in. He played for that OL coach (Paul Boudreau) in Miami last year.
He’s a big, strong tough guy who provides toughness and leadership to that line, and
he’ll start.
PFW: Patriots sign OL Joe Panos
Buchsbaum: He was really hampered by injuries the past couple of years. He’s just
a tough, blue-collar worker, and he’s further evidence of what Bill Belichick’s
trying to do. He’s trying to bring in some people who have good work ethics, because
for four or five years they just brought people in based on athletic ability. They really
didn’t seem concerned with character or football toughness.
