contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum for his thoughts on news from around the league.
Bills reportedly ready to offer Moulds contract
The Bills are preparing to make WR Eric Moulds on of the NFLs highest paid
players at the position, according to a local Buffalo media report. One of Moulds
agents, Greg Johnson, said that the two sides are very close to coming to terms on a new
agreement.
PFW: What does Moulds bring to the Bills, and do they have other options if he
does leave?
Buchsbaum: Hes one of the premier receivers in the league. He can bring a
big-play threat. Hes got excellent size, and he runs well after the catch. No, (they
dont have a replacement for Moulds).

Kearse believes he was better this season
Despite the disparity in sack totals, Titans DE Jevon Kearse says he was a better
player this past season than he was in 1999. In Kearses rookie year, he set a record
for sacks by a rookie, with 14.5 sacks. This past season, Kearse had 11.5. Kearse became
the fourth player to have double-digit sack totals in his first two NFL seasons.
PFW: Do you agree with Kearses analysis of his season?
Buchsbaum:The end of the year he was a much better player. Earlier in the year he
struggled, but by the end of the year he had his technique down pat and he was playing as
well as any defensive end in the game all around. He really improved dramatically against
the run. But he still needs to refine his pass-rush techniques and come up with a few more
moves.

Dungy says Marvin Lewis snub was racially motivated
Bucs head coach Tony Dungy cant believe that Ravens defensive coordinator Marvin
Lewis wasnt made a head coach this offseason. But Dungy does believe that race may
have played a part in Lewis being ignored. Nine teams had head-coaching vacancies,
but Lewis got only one interview.
PFW: What are your thoughts on Dungys accusations?
Buchsbaum: I know Tom Donahoe, and Donahoe has bent over backwards for all minorities.
Hes very, very fair-minded. Hell only hire the best person. And lets be
honest, Gregg Williams had a phenomenal interview with him. Marvin Lewis came in on sort
of a downer, because you have an emotional down after youve had your greatest time
(for Lewis, winning the Super Bowl). And he was not a great interview, and he had nowhere
near the preparation (nor the time, obviously, to do it) that Williams had. The other
factor is that there was a lot of speculation he was going to Cleveland, which was more
appealing to him than Buffalo, because Buffalo has such a terrible salary-cap situation to
contend with. |
