How good has your pass protection been this season?
"I think its been great all year .You know weve been able to run the
ball, which I think has helped our pass protection. Certainly the guys up front deserve a
lot of credit. I think theyve done an outstanding job, Lomas Brown in particular.
You know, hes gone up against some really tough defensive ends and has really come
through. I cant say enough about those guys."
Do you cringe when you see what the Ravens have done to opposing quarterbacks
this season?
"They get after the quarterback, theres no doubt about it. One of the things
that has been good for me this year has been durability, and knock on wood, I hope
thats the same way this weekend. I dont have any special fears going into this
game. I know theyre going to be tough. I know theyre going to come after me,
but thats part of their game."
Does the success you had against the Vikings passing the ball give you a boost
heading into this game?
"I think it does. I think the day we had was probably the best day we had all
year. Obviously we dont expect that same kind of success going into this game, but
from an execution standpoint, I think its been as good as its been all
year."
Does it bother you when people call you an average quarterback?
"The only opinions I worry about are really the guys in that lockerroom and the
coaches. I think they feel pretty good about the year I had, about the way I played this
year, and I certainly feel good about it. I think that if you measure your quarterback in
terms of what has he done to help win football games? then I think Ive
done pretty well this year. People are going to say what they want to say and theres
nothing I can do about that. But like I said, the opinions that matter to me are pretty
high."
Is your confidence at an all-time high?
"I definitely feel Im playing as well as Ive played since Ive
been in the NFL, not only from a throwing standpoint but from managing the game and
knowing what we need to do to win the football game within the context of what we do. So
from that standpoint, I dont think Ive played this well."
What have you learned from your rocky past?
"Its been a great learning experience. I think that making mistakes is part
of life and I think the real crime is not learning from those mistakes. I think Ive
learned from them. I think Ive exorcised some of the demons that have haunted me in
the past. But this is a life-long thing for me; it doesnt stop here at the Super
Bowl. Certainly Im just as proud, maybe more proud, of whats going on off the
field than on the field."
