Warner tops in QB accuracy

Sometimes stats don’t tell the whole story when it comes to passing accuracy. All a 65 percent completion percentage may mean is the quarterback is completing a lot of dinks and dunks, which are little more than long handoffs. When Andre Ware was putting up amazing stats and winning the Heisman Trophy in college, more than half of his completions were in the air for less than 10 yards, and he completed less than half of his passes thrown down the field. With all this in mind, we asked NFL insiders who they believe are the most accurate passers in the game today.

1. Kurt Warner — "Most of his passes are thrown down the field, and the ball almost never seems to hit the ground. He has Dan Fouts-like accuracy."

2. Peyton Manning — "Great timing and touch. Tremendous poise. Does not throw the tightest spiral or prettiest ball but is right on the money."

3. Vinny Testaverde — "Has not been nearly as accurate this year because he is rusty. But when he is right, he may be the most accurate passer in the game. Can thread the needle 30 yards down the field."

4. Troy Aikman — "When he has time to set his feet, he is as accurate as anyone. But when he is on the move, he really is not very good. Any time you let him just drop back and throw, he will put the ball right on the money."
