| CHICAGO Dolphins head coach Dave Wannstedt was all
about speed as he departed Wednesdays NFL coaches seminar here and headed to the
airport terminal to catch a return flight to Miami. Luckily, he isnt as fast as
some of the players on his team, and I was able to catch up to him for a quick chat about
his Dolphins.
PFW: So, how was minicamp?
DW: Everything went well at minicamp. At this time in May, were where we need to
be.
PFW: Are you excited about your rookies?
DW: It looks like the Fletcher kid (CB Jamar Fletcher from Wisconsin) will really help
us. We needed a third corner, and hes gonna be a good one.
Its funny,
the Jets got (WR) Santana Moss, and the Colts got (WR) Reggie Wayne, so we got
Fletcher."
And, Ive gotta tell you, the Chambers kid (WR Chris Chambers
from Wisconsin) will make an impact for us this season."
PFW: How about the QB situation?
DW: Well, (Jay) Fiedlers the starter, and hes fully recovered from his
shoulder injury and is throwing well. Plus, Ray Lucas is doing a nice job. He definitely
will improve our team."
PFW: You added some WR depth this offseason. How do things look at that position?
DW: If there is one thing about our team this year, the biggest difference is speed.
Were a much faster team than we were last season. Adding (WR James) McKnight and (WR
Dedric) Ward and drafting (RB) Travis Minor has helped us get faster.
PFW: Hows WR O.J. McDuffies health?
DW: Hes had surgery on his toes twice, and he has difficulty making cuts. Plus,
hes sore after practice. Its very questionable whether he can play.
PFW: And free-agent DE Jason Taylors situation?
DW: Well, hes got the franchise tag on him, so hes not going anywhere.
Well know where were at with Jason come June 15.
