Trends, Tips and Timely Stats — Week 17

  • The numbers favor Miami, who is playing at New England. The Dolphins are 5-1-1 vs. the spread (5-2 straight up) on the road and 10-4-1 vs. the number overall. The Patriots are 2-5 vs. the spread at home.
  • Heading into their game in Atlanta, the Chiefs are 0-3 straight up and vs. the spread in their last three games in domes. Kansas City has covered its only game on turf this season.
  • Something has got to give when the Cardinals travel to Washington. Arizona is 1-6 vs. the spread on the road, while the Redskins are 2-5 vs. the number at home.
  • Carolina at Oakland features two top teams vs. the number on grass (both are 8-3 vs. the spread). The Raiders are 6-0-1 vs. the spread (6-1 straight up) in their last seven games vs. NFC teams.
  • Minnesota at Indianapolis features two good turf teams. The Vikings are 9-2 straight up (6-5 vs. the spread), and the Colts are 7-2 straight up (6-3 vs. the number) on artificial surfaces. In its last four games vs. AFC East teams, Minnesota is 4-0 straight up (3-1 vs. the number).
  • Heading into their game at Tennessee, the Cowboys are 0-6 straight up and vs. the spread in their last six road games vs. AFC teams.
  • In the last 19 games that Bengals RB Corey Dillon failed to rush for 100 yards, he has scored only one TD.
  • Bengals WR Danny Farmer’s five catches for 102 yards last week was the first 100-yard receiving game for Cincinnati since Carl Pickens in Week 13 of last season.
  • How bad is the Rams’ defense? St. Louis has held only one opponent to fewer than 20 points (a 16-3 loss to Carolina).
  • Heading into their game vs. the Giants, the Jaguars have turned the ball over only once in their last three games.
  • How badly did the Browns miss QB Tim Couch? In its last nine games, Cleveland was held to 193 or fewer yards seven times and threw only two TD passes.
