Trends, Tips and Timely Stats — Week Seven

By Art Edelstein

  • Every Rams game this season has gone over the total, and there is no reason to believe that trend will stop, unless they start playing defense. Last year in the two games against the Falcons, St. Louis scored 35 and 41 points. Kurt Warner threw four TD passes without an interception, Marshall Faulk had 385 combined yards and two TDs, and Isaac Bruce caught a TD pass in each game.
  • In the last four meetings between the Saints and Panthers, the home team has won and covered. The last three games in New Orleans have stayed under the total. Panthers QB Steve Beuerlein threw five TD passes without an interception in the last meeting. Panthers TE Wesley Walls caught three TD passes in the two meetings last season, whereas Saints WR Keith Poole caught a TD pass in one game and had more than 100 receiving yards in the other.
  • The last time he faced the Jaguars, Titans QB Steve McNair threw five TD passes without an interception. In the two regular-season games between the teams last season, Titans tight ends caught three TD passes, but none was caught by Frank Wycheck.
  • When Cowboys RB Emmitt Smith traveled to New York last season to face the Giants, he was held to 26 yards on 22 carries but did score a TD.
  • Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez has caught a TD pass in the last three games against the Raiders.
  • Heading into their game vs. the Seahawks, the Colts have covered five of their last six games vs. the AFC West.
  • The last three meetings between the Eagles and the Cardinals have been decided by a total of eight points.
  • Heading into their game at Washington, the Ravens have won and covered four straight on the road vs. NFC East teams, going back to 1994.
  • Over the last two-plus seasons, the Bengals have gone 3-1 vs. the Steelers and 4-29 vs. the rest of the league. The road team has won and covered the last three meetings between these teams.
