Trends, Tips and Timely Stats — Week Six

By Art Edelstein, Contributing writer

  • Heading into their game in Atlanta, the Giants have lost their last six road games vs. NFC West teams straight up and 5-of-6 against the spread, going back to 1994. After beginning the season strong, New York has been held to 14 or fewer points in each of its last three games.
  • The Bengals are 0-6 straight up and vs. the spread in their last six games. Titans RB Eddie George rushed for 123 yards and two TDs in his last game vs. the Bengals.
  • Heading into their game in San Francisco, the Raiders have covered their last four on the road vs. NFC teams. The 49ers are 2-10 against the spread in their last 12 games vs. AFC teams. Will this game be a shootout? The five games involving the 49ers averaged 60.2 points per game, and in the Raiders’ last three games an average of 57.3 points were scored.
  • In the last six meetings between the Lions and the Packers, the home team has won straight up each time and is 5-0-1 against the spread. Lions WR Germaine Crowell caught eight passes for 112 yards and a TD in the last game vs. the Packers.
  • The Bills have covered the last four regular-season games vs. the Dolphins. Miami will need to do a better job of running the ball than it did last season. In those two games, the Dolphins were held to 119 yards on the ground.
  • The Broncos and Chargers split their games last season despite the fact that Denver had a plus-7 turnover advantage in the two games.
  • Chargers RB Jermaine Fazande carried 30 times for 183 yards and a TD in the final game of last season vs. the Broncos.
  • When the Bears beat the Saints 14-10 last season Chicago did so despite committing five turnovers. The Saints’ defense has not allowed 300 total yards in a game this season.
