Steve Young retrospective

June 9, 2000

Another legendary quarterback is calling it quits. 49ers QB Steve Young is expected to announce his retirement Monday, having been knocked out of the NFL by a series of concussions.

His 15-year career had some rocky moments, especially in the early stages, but it concluded with Young being ranked among the all-time greats ever to play the position.

He was given the unenviable task of succeeding Bay Area legend Joe Montana and proceeded to excel in every aspect. Young won a Super Bowl title in January 1995, passing for a Super Bowl-record six touchdowns. He was named the NFL Most Valuable Player in both 1992 and 1994.

Pro Football Weekly has gone into its archives and found four articles that provide some perspective to Young’s NFL career. Click on any of the links below to read what was written about the star quarterback.
