RB Leon Johnson

| The Jets, who suffered a multitude
of injury problems last season, took another hit when RB Leon Johnson had his second major
knee injury in less than a year. Johnson, who was expected to be Curtis Martin’s
primary backup, missed almost the entire ’99 season after suffering a knee injury in
the season opener. Injuries also plagued him in ’98.
ProFootballWeekly.com asked contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum about the impact of the
injury.
Q: Can you assess Johnson’s career status after this injury?
Buchsbaum: As a rookie in 1997, Leon Johnson looked like one of the best young
all-purpose backs in the game. In ’98, he had a lot of injury problems and never
really got on track. Last year he blew out his knee in the opener and had major
reconstructive surgery. After rehabbing, he re-injured the knee seriously this offseason,
and now his career may be over. |
