The Ravens’ re-signing of LB Jamie
Sharper

| The Ravens re-signed restricted
free-agent LB Jamie Sharper to a one-year tender offer Thursday, according to Baltimore
media reports. Sharper, a ’97 second-round pick out of Virginia, teamed with Ray
Lewis and Peter Boulware to form the LB corps on one of the NFL’s top defenses last
season.
Sharper says he still hopes to agree to a long-term deal with the team. He is now
scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2000 season.
ProFootballWeekly.com asked contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum to comment on
Sharper’s play.
Q: What’s the scouting report on Sharper?
Buchsbaum: He was an inconsistent, hot-and-cold player who was a major disappointment
up until last season. Last year he came into his own and played almost as well, if not as
well, as the other two linebackers (Lewis and Boulware).
Q: If Sharper plays at that level in 2000, will he be an attractive commodity as an
unrestricted free agent after the season?
Buchsbaum: If he plays like he did, without question. |
