Dolphins’ re-signing of OG Kevin
Donnalley, signing of ex-Charger Terrence Shaw

| With no teams apparently willing to
pay the price he was asking for, OG Kevin Donnalley is back with the Dolphins. Donnalley,
a nine-year NFL veteran who was released by Miami June 2 in a salary-cap move, agreed to a
one-year contract June 13 with the Dolphins. Terms were not disclosed.
Originally joining the Dolphins as an unrestricted free agent from the Titans in 1998,
Donnalley played all 16 games last season, splitting time with Kevin Gogan at guard.
Miami also came to terms on a one-year deal with CB Terrence Shaw.
Shaw has spent his entire five-year career with the Chargers, who made him their first
pick in the ’95 draft (second round).
ProFootballWeekly.com asked contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum for his thoughts on
these two transactions.
Q: Why wasn’t there more interest leaguewide in Donnalley?
Buchsbaum: There’s very little interest in general leaguewide when it comes to
guards, especially guards over 30. Basically, the money just wasn’t there, so he came
back to Miami.
Q: Can Shaw help the Dolphins?
Buchsbaum: He’s a very talented cornerback with outstanding ability, but he’s
never been able to apply that ability on a consistent basis. He is a close-but-no-cigar
guy who misses a lot of time with injuries every year. He’s still young enough, fast
enough and talented enough to be a quality starting cornerback in the NFL, but I just
don’t know if he’ll ever turn the corner. |
