The Chargers releasing OL John Jackson
|
| John Jackson was released by the
Chargers in a cost-cutting move. It is believed the team will save $3.25 million by
dumping the 12-year veteran. Jackson spent the majority of his career in a Steelers
uniform, but he signed with the Chargers as an unrestricted free agent in February 1998.
San Diego awarded him a six-year contract worth $26.55 million, which made him the
NFLs highest-paid offensive lineman at the time. While with the Chargers, Jackson
started all 31 of the games in which he played.
ProFootballWeekly.com asked contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum for his thoughts about
Jacksons release.
Q. What does this decision mean for the Chargers, and what happens to Jackson
now?
Buchsbaum: "He may have been their best offensive lineman, but he was making
astronomical money. But they will try to sign him back at a lesser rate." |
