The retirement of Charles Way
|
| Giants FB Charles Way announced his
retirement last week. Way played at a high level as recently as 1998, but some serious
knee injuries forced him to miss much of last season. Faced with the prospect of more
surgery before getting back on the field, Way, 27, decided to retire, saying that being
able to play with his children was more important to him than playing one more year of
football.
ProFootballWeekly.com asked contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum to put Ways career
in perspective.
Q: How would you assess Ways career?
Buchsbaum: Charles Way was one of the most complete fullbacks in the game in his
heyday. A couple of years ago, he was the Giants Offensive MVP. But the knee just
kept getting worse and worse and eventually ruined his career. With him gone, theres
a strong possibility that the Giants will pursue a blocking fullback such as Sam Gash, if
Gashs price is still reasonable. |
