The Raiders' agreement with TE Troy Drayton
|
| The Raiders reportedly reached an
agreement on a one-year deal with TE Troy Drayton this week. The ex-Ram and Dolphin was
released by Miami earlier this offseason. Drayton will back up Rickey Dudley in Oakland.
The 29-year-old veteran has started at least 13 games in each of his seven NFL seasons. He
had 32 catches last season.
ProFootballWeekly.com asked contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum about the move.
Q: What are the Raiders looking for from Drayton?
Buchsbaum: I think they’re looking for blocking more than anything else.
They’ll use him in a lot of two-TE sets and flank Dudley outside more.
Q: Does this move allow Dudley to do more of what he’s good at and keep
the Raiders from forcing him to do what he’s not as good at?
Buchsbaum: Well, it allows him to run free more and create mismatches, but he still
doesn’t catch the ball particularly well. His blocking is not as good as
Drayton’s can be.
Q: What’s the scouting report on Drayton?
Buchsbaum: He’s a guy who’s never put it all together. He’s a guy you
think should be a better blocker, should be a better receiver and a more productive
player. But it has never all come together. Some people think he’s a selfish player
as well. |
