Giants DE Michael Strahan

| The Giants were disappointed in
their 7-9 record last season. They were also disappointed by the play of DE Michael
Strahan, who struggled after a sterling campaign in ’98. ProFootballWeekly.com
asked contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum about Strahan’s chances for a rebound.
Q: Can you explain the decline in Strahan’s productivity last season?
Buchsbaum: I think he lost a little bit of his intensity. He didn’t adjust to his
new contract real well. I think he felt, though he would never admit it, that he had it
made now. The thing that made Strahan so good was his insatiable work ethic, and I think
he lost a little bit of that last year. He started making excuses instead of looking at
himself. He was in denial.
Q: When playing at his highest level, what is Strahan so good at?
Buchsbaum: He’s a very good, tenacious pass rusher who never stops coming.
He’s a good run defender who’s hard to block because he never lets up.
Q: Do you think Strahan can return to that high level of play?
Buchsbaum: I think he can come close. |
