Tony Brackens’ participation in
voluntary workouts

| DE Tony Brackens, an unsigned
franchise free agent, took the unusual step of reporting to the Jaguars’ voluntary
offseason workouts this week. Brackens and the team are far apart on a deal, and he
skipped the team’s April minicamp. Brackens’ agent says the move is designed to
get talks moving again.
"We’re very happy," Jagaurs senior vice president Michael Huyghue said.
"It means he feels it’s in his best interests to come in and accelerate getting
things done."
ProFootballWeekly.com asked contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum for his take on
Brackens’ move.
Q: What do you read into Brackens’ decision to report for offseason work?
Buchsbaum: I think it’s an olive branch, that he sees he’s not going anywhere
and he wants to see if he can get something done with them now.
Q: How important is it to Jacksonville’s Super Bowl hopes to get Brackens
signed?
Buchsbaum: Very important, because he’s their best pass rusher.
Q: What is the scouting report on Brackens?
Buchsbaum: An underachiever, except for last season. Has a hard time playing through
pain but can be an excellent pass rusher when he’s motivated. |
