QB Ron Powlus’ future in the NFL

One-time college phenom Ron Powlus was one of the heroes of NFL Europe over the weekend.

The former Notre Dame quarterback hit L.C. Stevens on a 34-yard TD pass with 3:28 left in overtime Saturday as the Amsterdam Admirals defeated the Berlin Thunder 24-21.

It was the second OT victory of the season for the Admirals, who improved to 3-2.

Powlus has been allocated to the Admirals by the Philadelphia Eagles. So far this spring, Powlus has completed 76-of-134 passes (56.7 percent) for 814 yards with a 6-1 TD-interception ratio and an 86.5 passer rating.

ProFootballWeekly.com asked contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum for his thoughts on Powlus’ progress.

Q: What’s the book on Powlus at this point?

Buchsbaum: He has average ability. This is a guy who was overhyped and overrated all along. He’s gotten better by playing, but he still has a ways to go.

Q: What does the future hold for him in the NFL?

Buchsbaum: He has an outside chance to make a team as a No. 3 QB.
