The likely retirement of Daryl Johnston
|
| Cowboys FB Daryl Johnston,
better-known by his nickname "Moose," said Wednesday that he expects to retire
this year. Johnston has been plagued by a neck injury for the last three seasons. He
played only one game in 99 before re-injuring his neck. Johnston played 149
consecutive games before he first injured his neck in 97.
ProFootballWeekly.com asked contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum for his take on
Johnston.
Q: Can you put Johnstons career in perspective?
Buchsbaum: He was a tremendous blocking back, a good receiver and a powerful runner who
didnt have many frills. He made life a lot easier for both Emmitt Smith and Troy
Aikman.
Q: Given the firepower the Cowboys had with Smith, Aikman and Michael Irvin, was
Johnston the perfect complement as a fullback?
Buchsbaum: Very much so. |
