WR Sylvester Morris, QB Elvis Grbac and the Kansas City passing game

Sylvester Morris has been getting a lot of positive ink for his play during the Chiefs’ minicamp.

ProFootballWeekly.com asked contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum to weigh in on the subject.

Q: Morris has been getting very positive reviews for his play in minicamp. Do you have any thoughts on how this could impact the Chiefs’ passing game?

Buchsbaum: Of course Sylvester Morris looked good in minicamp. How many first-round draft picks don’t look good in minicamp, especially wide receivers. Morris gives the Chiefs another big, fast wide receiver who can get down the field and stretch the defense. However, the Chiefs cannot get too complicated with their passing game because the more they ask (QB) Elvis Grbac to do, the less effective he is. Grbac is much more effective with a limited offense that is based more on the run and you throw when they don’t expect it. Throw play-action and basically throw it off the running game. That way he reacts quicker because it’s much simpler for him. Otherwise he tends to hold on to the ball too long.
