| Asked whether he thought the low-scoring NFC championship
game will dispel the notion that the Rams defense is second to the high-powered Rams
offense: Carter: "That thought is just in the media. Weve known all along
that we had a very solid defense. The numbers speak for themselves. The offense has gotten
a lot of much-deserved credit for the kind of season theyve put together, but
were all in this together as a team."
Asked what it means to be playing in a Super Bowl:
Carter: "Everyone who has ever played football, even as a kid, has wanted to play
in a Super Bowl, so from that standpoint, its a dream come true. Its
cant get any better than this right now, but weve got one more piece of the
puzzle to finish off. Getting this last win over Tennessee would make everything
perfect."
Asked about his teams regular-season loss (24-21) to the Titans in Nashville:
Carter: "The game was a very tough game for us. We got behind early and then
actually did a really good job of getting back into the game in the second half. We just
put ourselves into too big of a hole to climb out of. You cant do that on the road
against a quality opponent, and the Titans really played well that afternoon. It was a
very hostile atmosphere, but well have a neutral crowd here in Atlanta."
On defending against mobile Titans QB Steve McNair:
Carter: "Hes done a really good job. Hes almost like trying to tackle
a running back with how hard he runs. Hes very elusive, and its tough to get a
good shot on him because he can run so well and is so athletic. Its much easier to
rush a passer if he is standing still, and thats definitely not something McNair
does."
Asked about the Rams storybook season:
Carter: "Its been a classic story of a great cast of characters coming
together. Youve got a quarterback in Kurt Warner who was bagging groceries not so
long ago. You have a veteran running back like Marshall Faulk who has found new life with
his second team. And you have a head coach who had brought a team to the Super Bowl many
years ago and then was in television for years. There are a lot of good guys on this team,
and its a heartwarming story. Its good to see that good guys finish first in
this case."
