Sanders calls it quits

| Barry Sanders is finished playing football? Believe him or not,
that’s what Sanders announced Wednesday. Although reports of his unhappiness with the
Lions have been circulating for months, few actually believed it would come to this. Taking
the retirement announcement at face value, Pro Football Weekly Internet Edition
comments on it, with columns by PFW managing editor Keith
Schleiden and senior editor Michael Lev, who have very
different viewpoints on Sanders’ decision.
In addition, PFW went into its archives for a print-edition issue at the end of the
1997 regular season that asked the question: Who is the best
running back of all time? PFW editor-in-chief Ron Pollack and Lev had two different
responses to the question, and they explained the reasons for their choices. From that
1997 issue, we also have:
