Opinion Man gets in the trenches with the offensive linemen

Nobody has a better 1-2 punch at OT than Jacksonville

By Ron Pollack, Editor-in-chief

Opinion Man takes a look at offensive linemen:

I think we could be hitting a golden age for offensive tackles. Tony Boselli, Jonathan Ogden, William Roaf, Walter Jones and Orlando Pace are a sensational handful of tackles. And all five could very well get better before all is said and done.

square.gif (826 bytes) I love the fact that the Jaguars have a player the quality of Leon Searcy to serve as Boselli’s complementary bookend. Nobody has a better 1-2 punch at offensive tackle than Jacksonville.

square.gif (826 bytes) Once Saints RB Ricky Williams starts piling up the yards, you’ll start hearing about OT Kyle Turley more and more.

square.gif (826 bytes) I really like the futures of young OTs John Tait (Chiefs), L.J. Shelton (Cardinals) and Tra Thomas (Eagles).

square.gif (826 bytes) As young Cowboys OLs Flozell Adams and Solomon Page continue to improve, don’t forget to credit Cowboys’ OL coach Hudson Houck for the work he has done.

square.gif (826 bytes) Cowboys OG Larry Allen dominates his position more than any player in the NFL.

square.gif (826 bytes) Not enough has been made about how much OG Adam Timmerman helped the Rams’ offensive line last season.

square.gif (826 bytes) It’s absolutely astonishing how well Titans OL Bruce Matthews continues to play.

square.gif (826 bytes) It just doesn’t seem right that Dermontti Dawson is no longer the top-rated center in the game. Even the great ones have to deal with age sooner or later.
