Walter Payton, one of the NFL's all-time greats, died Monday, Nov. 1,
from cancer at the age of 45 following a battle with a rare liver disease.
Besides his eight NFL records and numerous other accomplishments on the
football field, Payton will remembered for playing the game with the enthusiasm of a
youngster and the blue-collar work ethic characterized by the city where he plied his
trade.
In tribute to the Hall of Fame running back, the Pro Football Weekly
Internet Edition presents a sampling of stories, historical perspectives and
statistics that attempt to recap the essence of his life.
