Trends, Tips and Timely Stats — Week 16

By Art Edelstein

  • Heading into their game vs. the Giants, the Vikings have not covered the spread on the road all season (0-6-1).
  • Heading into their game in Detroit, the Broncos have covered their last five road games.
  • The Saints, who are 0-5 straight up and vs. the spread in their last five games, face a Cowboys team that has not covered on the road since Week One.
  • In the battle for the top spot in the AFC West, the Seahawks, who are 0-3 vs. the spread (1-2 straight up) in their last three home games, face a Chiefs team that has won its last two straight up as a road dog.
  • The Seahawks have not had a game with fewer than two turnovers since Week Seven. An opportunistic Chiefs defense will try to keep that streak going.
  • The Rams, who have covered in all 12 of their wins, face a Bears team that has covered in five of their last six games.
  • The Raiders have won and covered their last three games in San Diego. The Chargers have covered their last four games this season.
  • The Chargers have not thrown a TD pass to a wide receiver since Week Nine.
  • Expect a lot of points in the Ravens-Bengals game. Baltimore, which beat Cincinnati 34-31 in Week 11, has scored 31 or more points in four of its last five games. The Bengals have scored 27 or more in their last four games. The over/under at presstime was 45.
  • Broncos WR Ed McCaffrey has not caught a TD pass since Week 10. Teammate Rod Smith has caught at least five passes in every game since Week Eight.
  • Titans QB Steve McNair’s TD pass to WR Chris Sanders last Sunday was Tennessee's first to a wide receiver since Week Six.
