Trends, tips and timely stats — Week Four

By Art Edelstein

  • How much has Jets WR Keyshawn Johnson been affected by the absence of QB Vinny Testaverde? In the two games Rick Mirer has started, Johnson has a total of six catches for 74 yards and no TDs.
  • Also suffering the effects of a new signalcaller are the 0-3 Broncos. WR Ed McCaffrey is the only Broncos player to catch a TD pass this year. TE Shannon Sharpe and WR Rod Smith are still waiting to get their first one.
  • How well has Redskins QB Brad Johnson been playing? He is the only quarterback to start three games who has not thrown an interception. In fact, through three weeks, the Redskins and the Seahawks are the only two teams that still have not been picked off.
  • Titans RB Eddie George has not had a 100-yard rushing game since Week 10 of last season.
  • Bills WR Eric Moulds has yet to catch a TD pass this season. The three-game drought matches his longest dry spell of last season.
  • Jaguars WR Jimmy Smith's TD catch last week was the first by Smith or teammate Keenan McCardell in their last six regular-season games.
  • The Browns' defense has allowed two rushing TDs in each of its three games. Patriots RB Terry Allen could exploit that deficiency this week.
  • When the Panthers held the Bengals to three points last week, it marked the first time since Week Eight of the 1997 season that the team had held an opponent to fewer than 10 points.
  • The last four times the Raiders have played in Seattle, the game has gone over the total.
  • The Giants have won and covered their last four games vs. the Eagles.
  • Their last five times on grass as a road underdog, the Titans have won 4-of-5 straight up.
