Trends, tips and timely stats — Week Two

By Art Edelstein

  • The Falcons have lost eight consecutive Monday-night games dating back to 1981.
  • Atlanta’s last four Monday-night losses, all at home, are by a combined score of 161-47.
  • The Steelers are 1-5 vs. the pointspread in their last six home openers.
  • Including the playoffs, the Bills have dropped four straight games vs. AFC East rivals.
  • The Bengals have not started a season by covering the pointspread in their first two games since 1992.
  • The Eagles’ 24 points in their Week One loss were more points than the team scored in any game last season.
  • Buccaneers RB Warrick Dunn has not scored a TD since Week Nine of last season and has scored just two TDs in his last 23 games.
  • Cardinals WR Frank Sanders has not scored a TD in his last seven games dating back to last season.
  • Lions QB Charlie Batch has thrown nine TD passes and only one interception in his last seven games dating back to last season.
  • QB Kurt Warner’s 316-yard passing performance in Week One was the first by a Rams signalcaller since Tony Banks’ 401-yard effort in Week 10 of the 1997 season.
  • Cowboys QB Troy Aikman’s five TD passes in Week One marked the first time he had thrown more than two TD passes in a game since Week One of the 1997 season. He threw none the following week in ’97.
  • Chargers QB Jim Harbaugh should have no trouble improving the team’s TD-to-interception ratio. With Craig Whelihan and Ryan Leaf at the helm, San Diego threw 19 picks and only three TD passes in its last five games of ’98.
