Offseason diversion
Editors put themselves in linemaker’s shoes

| How do pro football writers spend
an afternoon in the office on a hot, sunny June day? Oftentimes they make up silly little
games to play among themselves. They create little competitions, each naturally having
something to do with the NFL, and then try to beat each other in each and every game. This
game involved a little handicapping. While none of us is a professional bookmaker, we
wanted to see if we’re at least thinking along the same lines as the men who make the
lines. So, four of us — Keith Schleiden, Robert Neely, Michael Lev and Jeff Agrest
— took the 15 Week One games and forecast what the current lines would be for those
games.
What follows is a table displaying our predictions, along with the actual Week One odds
as of June 9, according to the Imperial Palace.
