Although the Senior Bowl never invites any underclassmen, it still is the No. 1 supplier of talent to the NFL among the postseason college all-star games. Almost every player in last year’s game — 83 in all — made NFL rosters for the ’99 season, and at least 20 of those cracked the starting lineup.

The biggest edge the Senior Bowl gives prospects is that they get one week of intense training from NFL coaches leading up to the game. Therefore, the players know what to expect on the next level and what techniques and skills they will have to use. The players also get showcased in front of everyone who is anyone from the NFL — about 700 scouts, front-office personnel and coaches. This year’s Senior Bowl is on Jan. 22 in Mobile, Ala.

What follows is an all-star team composed of NFL players who upgraded their draft stock in either pregame practices for the Senior Bowl or in the game itself.

Quarterbacks — Brett Favre, Packers; Dan Marino, Dolphins.

Running backs — Fred Taylor, Jaguars; Curtis Martin, Jets; Ricky Watters, Seahawks.

Wide receivers — Antonio Freeman, Packers; Eric Moulds, Bills; Terrell Owens, 49ers; Frank Sanders, Cardinals; Jimmy Smith, Jaguars.

Offensive linemen — Dermontti Dawson, Steelers; Kevin Mawae, Jets; Randall McDaniel, Vikings; Dave Szott, Chiefs; Larry Allen, Cowboys; Ruben Brown, Bills; Todd Steussie, Vikings; Richmond Webb, Dolphins; Brad Hopkins, Titans.

Defensive ends — Michael Strahan, Giants; Vonnie Holliday, Packers; Chuck Smith, Falcons.

Defensive/nose tackles — Bryant Young, 49ers; Ted Washington, Bills.

Linebackers — John Mobley, Broncos; Derrick Brooks, Buccaneers; Cornelius Bennett, Colts; Derrick Thomas, Chiefs; Mark Fields, Saints; Levon Kirkland, Steelers; Donnie Edwards, Chiefs.
