We asked NFL insiders to identify the best deals from last offseason, considering what
has happened this season. Their responses were made anonymously.
1. The Seahawks getting head coach Mike Holmgren from the Packers for a second-round
pick. "There are very few coaches in this league who will almost instantly make teams
winners, but Holmgren is in the mix with Bill Parcells, Jimmy Johnson and Tom
Coughlin."
2. The Rams getting RB Marshall Faulk from the Colts for second- and fifth-round picks.
"This deal was instrumental in the great success both the Rams and Colts have enjoyed
this year."
3. The Redskins getting a bunch of extra picks, including the Saints’ 2000
first-round pick, for their ’99 first-rounder, which the Saints used to take RB Ricky
Williams.
4. The Redskins trading up in Round One with the Bears. "They could still get the
top player on their draft board and the player they would have taken first with the pick
they gave New Orleans — Champ Bailey."
5. The Ravens getting the Falcons’ 2000 first-round choice for a ’99
second-round pick. "Would you rather have a lottery pick if you wait a year or a
medium second-round pick a year earlier?" |
