Week 12 fantasy football

Fantasy matchups to exploit or avoid

Early posting, Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999

This week’s bye team: Denver.

Start Thanksgiving Day off right by starting Bears WR Marcus Robinson, who’s been on a tear with four 100-yard performances in his last six games and six touchdowns in his last seven games. The Lions fell to 29th in the league in pass defense after surrendering 307 yards to the Packers in Week 11.

Eagles RB Duce Staley battered the Redskins for 122 yards and a touchdown in Week 10; expect more of the same in the rematch. In the two games before last week’s win over the Giants, the Redskins surrendered 402 yards on the ground. They rank 28th in the league in run defense and 30th in average gain allowed per rush.

Titans RB Eddie George has been losing short-yardage scoring opportunities to QB Steve McNair, but expect everyone to get in on the act this week vs. the Browns. George scored two TDs vs. Cleveland in Week Two. The Browns have allowed 15 rushing touchdowns this season and have yielded more than 200 rushing yards in five different games.

Even though he scored two touchdowns last week, you may want to bench Jaguars RB James Stewart vs. the Ravens. In Week 10 vs. Baltimore, Stewart gained just 25 yards on 18 carries. If the Jaguars are to move the ball on the Ravens’ second-ranked defense, they’ll do it through the air as they did vs. the Saints.

Packers WR Corey Bradford had a breakout game last week with six receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown, and he could easily match those numbers vs. the woeful 49ers secondary. San Francisco has allowed a league-high 21 TD passes. Bradford will get more playing time than usual if Antonio Freeman is still feeling the effects of the concussion he suffered vs. the Lions.

If you’re in dire need of QB help, take a flier on San Diego’s Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh faces a Vikings defense that is last in the league against the pass. Despite the Chargers’ recent offensive woes, Harbaugh’s numbers haven’t been bad. He has five TD passes in the last three games and at least 204 passing yards in each game.
