Week 16 — Fantasy matchups to exploit or avoid

Feel free to play either Jet wide receiver, Keyshawn Johnson or Wayne Chrebet, vs. the Bills in the first Saturday game this week. Johnson has had good success vs. Buffalo, Chrebet has been on a hot streak and the Bills will be without their top cover cornerback, Thomas Smith, who is out 4-6 weeks with a knee injury.

Mike Alstott hasn’t been nearly as effective on the road as he has been at home, but that could change this week at Washington. The Redskins rank 28th in the league in both rushing yards allowed per game and average gain allowed per rush, and they have surrendered 22 rushing touchdowns, the most in the league. The Buccaneers visit the Redskins in the second Saturday-afternoon game.

This might be a good week to start Patriot RB Robert Edwards. New England will be without starting QB Drew Bledsoe, making it more than likely that the Pats will try to attack the Bryant Young-less 49ers with the running game. Edwards is coming off a career-best 196-yard performance vs. the Rams.

Cardinal WR Rob Moore could have a big game this week. Moore faces a Saint secondary that has given up more passing yards than any other unit in the league and got torched last week by Atlanta’s Terance Mathis. Since resting his sore hamstring during the Cards’ bye week, Moore has four TD catches and two 100-yard performances in seven games.

Steeler RB Jerome Bettis has been a huge disappointment this season, but, if you haven’t given up on him, he could deliver a big payoff this week. Bettis faces the Bengals, who are last in the league in rushing yards allowed per game and have given up 19 rushing touchdowns, tied for second-most in the league.

If you’re looking for WR help, you might try Carolina’s Muhsin Muhammad. With both TE Wesley Walls (foot) and WR Raghib Ismail (knee) likely out, Muhammad becomes the No. 1 option in the Panther passing attack. In his last two games, Muhammad has a TD catch, a 100-yard outing and a two-point conversion. He faces a Ram secondary that has done well in the yards-allowed department but has surrendered 24 TD passes, fourth-most in the league.
